The Pillsbury Ranch

The 50 acre Pillsbury Ranch in Lakeside, San Diego is home to Embery Pillsbury Enterprises. Here, Joan Embery and her husband Duane Pillsbury brought together the many exotic animal ambassadors of the Embery Institute for Wildlife Conservation and created a busy working ranch with horses and other livestock. This hundred-year-old property includes several historic buildings and was a thriving farm back when the neighboring San Diego River still flowed.
Upon entering through the big wooden gate off Willow Road you'll pass a bubbling barrel fountain and find yourself in a tree-lined, Western-themed event area. You'll hear exotic birds cooing in the aviary and see horses frisking their tails in the nearby paddocks. Explore Joan's African area ,featuring her famous "Africa" Land Rover, an expedition tent (which works great as an outdoor bar), and animal sculptures. You may even see an African guinea fowl pecking in the grass, a peacock sitting in a willow or Zipper the zebra waiting for you at the Zebra Bar.
Located just 30 minutes from downtown San Diego, the Pillsbury Ranch offers a rural escape from the city's hustle and bustle that is great for special event rentals. Your guests will enjoy the sights and sounds of a working ranch—and they may have the chance to meet a lemur!
