Picture
The boa constrictor, found throughout Mexico, Central and South America, is named for its ability to constrict its prey with powerful muscles so that inhalation is prevented and the animal suffocates. Many are purchased from pet shops when young and at maturity can reach a length up to fourteen feet. They are capable of living over thirty years in captivity.
