Fennec Fox

Yoda Two the Fennec Fox

Picture
The smallest member of the canine family, fennec foxes weigh only 3 ½ pounds and stand 8 inches tall.  They are social and congregate in groups.  Young kits weigh only 1 ½ ounces at birth. Large ears allow them to hear predators and to dissipate heat through surface capillaries which cools their body temperature.  They burrow underground and are nocturnal to avoid temperatures up to 120°F in the African deserts.
