Barn owls are so named due to their preference for roosting in barns and old buildings.  Like all owls they have a facial disk made up of densely webbed feathers that frame the face creating a dish-like reflector for receiving sound.  Ear openings beneath the feathers are at different levels to aid them in eco-locating their prey (hearing which direction their prey is moving). They are extremely beneficial at controlling rodent populations.  Barn owls are found worldwide except for Antarctica.
